Take your hands off the wheel.

So I’ve recently been struggling in making a decision. Not a massive decision about something major or anything, just wondering if something I’m working on is worth continuing to work on. I’ve spoken to some friends about it and no matter how hard I tried to make the decision clearly, I couldn’t get there. And then I realized why. When I’m working with clients or even teaching students, whenever I hear them say, ‘I’m trying to _______,’ my response is usually, ‘So stop that.’ Meaning stop TRYING to make something happen. Yet that’s exactly what I was doing. I was TRYING to make a decision. I was wrestling with the thing in my head. When what I should have been doing was ALLOWING the decision to come to me.

As you all know by now, I’m big in to Abraham-Hicks (www.abraham-hicks.com) and their teachings of the Law of Attraction. One of the things I’ve heard them say over and over is, “Make a decision, and then line up with it.” In other words, there really aren’t any right or wrong answers about something you’re trying to decide on and if you just make the decision then get on board with it, it’ll all work out. And I guess I’ve usually agreed to that. But sometimes it’s like, well what do you do? Flip a coin? My guess is that would be sufficient for a lot of the decisions we make, but it wasn’t for me in this decision.

In talking with my friend a few weeks ago I admitted to not being able to think my way through this thing so had reminded myself to stop trying. To forget about it. To just let it go. To allow the answer to come to me. I used a little thing that Carrie Underwood taught me…the ‘Jesus Take the Wheel’ method (I use ‘God/Spirit/Universe’, but whatever works for you is cool). Again, this decision wasn’t a major life thing, but it doesn’t have to be. And as soon as I implemented my go to method, it happened. I mean it didn’t happen like the next hour or anything, but it happened a week or so later. Little signs, nudges from the Universe, emails and opportunities started presenting themselves to me that made it crystal clear what I was supposed to do. And just like that, the decision was made and I was TOTALLY able to line up with it.

My motto for the day?

Take your hands off the wheel. The Universe has your back.

Live and Learn with love.
