Healer heal thyself…

Last week I saw a cool quote about Healers and I shared it on my Facebook Business page (facebook.com/GeriAKarabin). I truly wish I could give credit where credit is due for the quote, but I just can’t make out the signature. But just so you know, it’s not my quote. It reads:

“A Healer is not someone you go to for healing. A Healer is someone who helps you to find the key within you, for your own ability to heal.”

Again, it’s not my quote, but it’s exactly how I feel and what I strongly believe. I get phone calls and emails from clients all the time asking me to ‘heal’ them. These are mostly clients looking for a Shamanic Illumination, but I can say the same thing for my clients asking for an Intuitive Animal Communication. For the former, they’ve got something going on with them and they just can’t let it go or work it out. For the latter, they’ve got something going on with an animal in their life who isn’t behaving and they want someone to make that animal stop doing what it is they’re doing. Again, someone to make it all better. (But, if you’ve ever had an Animal Reading with me, you know there’s ALWAYS a lesson coming from your animal…so it’s rarely their behavior but ours that needs to change.)
As humans, we’re used to looking outside of ourselves for the answer. We’re used to asking someone else to fix things or make them go away. Or even, make others do what we want them to do so we’ll be happy. Case in point. The other day I was having a bit of a rough time with something. I won’t go in to details, but I had lost all patience with something and was really at that point where I was like, ‘okay, someone needs to fix this or I’m going to lose my mind!’ I mean I was in a pretty bad place and I HATE being in that place. Because I know better. But, suffice to say, I wasn’t thinking all that clearly at the time, I just wanted someone to make it all better. Enter my dear friend Cindy. Cindy is a Faster EFT practitioner (tapintoyourpotential@gmail.com). Tapping for those not familiar with the practice. I was calling Cindy to do something to ‘make it all better.’ In short, I was asking her to heal me. And just like me with my clients, Cindy was having no part of it. So we started tapping. We tapped on the stuff I KNEW was coming up for me and we tapped on the stuff I didn’t realize was. And we kept tapping and working the problem until things started to become clearer and clearer for me and I realized there was a lesson in all of it. Part of that lesson? A reminder that it was MY job to let go and heal myself. I was humbly reminded that I needed to do the work too. Just like my clients.
My point in all of this? I am a healer. But I can only heal me. You are a healer. But only you can heal you. Do we all need help every now and again? Absolutely. I have my network of colleagues whom I call on when I just can’t get there myself. Healer, heal thyself…
But I’m here if you need a little push…
